Healthy Dining- Small Changes Program
Restaurant foods tend to be higher in calories, fat and sodium, and portions are bigger than food prepared at home. But more and more customers are looking for healthier options while dining out. Based on consumer interest in healthier choices, Healthy Plymouth is developing the “Small Changes” program to complement our Healthy Market program. The Market, Mayflower Provisions, Perry’s, and Plymouth Area Coalition’s Food Pantry have enrolled in the Healthy Market program, designed to make it easy for consumers to make healthier choices when shopping. Restaurant owners are currently being recruited into the Small Changes Program, which will make it easier for you to make the healthier choice when eating out- without sacrificing flavor.
To be a part of the Small Changes Program, restaurants will provide:
- Half to go prior to being served
- Vegetable versus fries – at no extra charge
- Whole grains available
- Skim or 1% milk available – if milk is served
Healthy Dining Brings in Business
Offering healthy dining options through the Small Changes Program helps businesses meet the demands of increasingly health conscious customers. Participation is easy! Restaurants simply feature healthy menu items they may already offer or make small changes to make existing items healthier.
